Exhibition and Art works
This exhibition will be composed of a series of works on paper using watercolor, marker, pastels, and sometimes found photographs secretly montaged and in play with the philosophy of is W A Y shape.
The overall theme is a play on the Chilean expression “seguro,” where a person may express disbelief while using a word that means “safely held” or “secured.”
The original meaning of “seguro” in Spanish translates to “out of danger and without a doubt.” When used as a slang form in colloquial Chilean, it means exactly the opposite. “Seguro” is a sign of disbelief, and the word’s sound can be extended to express complete and absolute disbelief. “Seguuuuuuuro” or “Segurooooooooo” if the disbelief is extreme, it will be followed with other words normally used to certify a situation as understood, such as “claro.” Thus we can hear someone who really cannot believe something to say “Seguuro! Claro.” It is a common conception to declare anything false that is new, exciting, and difficult to comprehend.
For this exhibition I present works of art that explore the idea of disbelief by using shapes at play with each other illustrating the philosophy of is W A Y shape.
Is W A Y shape is a philosophy that tailors the visual aspect of a pinched bubble; a formless substance responding to gravity that represents the current emotion that exists in the moment when we experience something interesting, when two or more beings become aware of each other, when the position of objects in a space is evocative, and so on. The goal is to secure and establish a location for a specific emotion, and to render this emotion a positive one, regardless of its initial intention. Perhaps it is useful for making peace and stability inside the complex human mind.
